I originally met Cheryl Hurlburt when she invited me to be the featured guest author for the launch of a new talk radio show entitled, Happiness For Breakfast, that she was co-hosting with Stacey Litke. It was a wonderful heart-to-heart interview that aired on May 31st and it felt like we were already long time friends. After the interview, Cheryl sent me a copy of her book, Shine—Live Your Ultimate Life. I was so impressed as soon as I began to read it and was soon saying, “WOW” out loud.

First let me tell you, Cheryl’s life is one of victory and overcoming and she openly shares her personal journey. She really draws the honesty cards. I so admire her courage and tenacity in finding rainbows through the many storms and vicissitudes of life in her personal quest for happiness and wholeness. She’s one of those rare people in the 5% (see blog last week) who actually integrate tools of transformation in life’s most difficult circumstances.
SHINE is truly an inspirational book filled with illumining processes. In the first several chapters, I already had tears surfacing, as she touched deep places within. In Chapter One, Cheryl immediately initiates processes that ask questions, which are both empowering and thought provoking (and for me, it was also a joyous romp down memory lane that brought smiles in one of the initial explorations).

Now, here’s a fun kicker! Cheryl wrote SHINE in 2003 and she shares THE SECRET(S) of happiness, fulfillment, balance, and abundance in Chapter Six, but references and interweaves all 44 Secrets throughout her book. In the last chapter, she then includes a summation entitled, The Secrets Revisited, where they are all outlined in point form. Take a bow, Cheryl, you were talking about THE SECRET(S) and outlining empowering tools before it became a worldwide phenomena.
Synchronistically, Cheryl and I share a similar writing style with bold quotes sprinkled throughout all chapters, which grab a reader’s attention to make a point more memorable, succinct and easy to read. Another serendipity is our enthusiasm and energy for the word SHINE. Any of you who have read my book or blogs know that I often sign off saying “Shine on!” For me it says “volumes.” I believe it was inevitable that Cheryl and I would someday magnetize each other as kindred spirits.
